Called to Serve

March 16-18, 2018 at Grace Episcopal Church in Bath
For high schoolers in 9-12 grade

Register here.

Jesus calls us to love our neighbor as ourselves, and as a part of that love, we are called to serve. What does it mean to love? What does it mean to serve? How do we find the strength to do something that sometimes feels so hard? A team of youth staff and adults will lead us, as we spend a weekend together doing the work of serving others, while figuring out how to keep up the energy to do that work. We will laugh together, sing together, serve together, pray together and make friends we can rely on as we figure out how we are called to serve.

Answers to FAQS:
When do we start and end? We gather on Friday, March 16 at 6:30 pm (after dinner) until Sunday, March 18 at 1:30 pm. Your family and friends are invited to come to the closing program on Sunday at 1:00 pm.

What’s the cost? Early registration is $38 or $15 with financial aid (you are early if you register by March 2). After that it’s $48 or $20 with financial aid. 100% financial aid is available.  You can pay online when you register to, or send checks, made out to Episcopal Diocese of Maine, to: Youth Events Diocesan of Maine, 143 State St, Portland, ME 04101.

What kinds of things will we do? We’ll experience church in an entirely different way – designed, run, and led by your own peers. Teens at this event will meet other teens, be part of interesting discussion groups, engage in enjoyable worship, listen to talks created by other teens, play games, listen to music, and essentially have a great time. We’ll also spend part of our weekend serving people in our community.

What should I bring? sleeping bag, pillow, mattress (optional), comfortable clothes, swimsuit, shower stuff, towel, some homework (optional), a snack or dessert to contribute (no nuts or peanut butter). Don’t bring: money or anything valuable.
Who can come? All high schoolers in grades 9-12. Feel free to invite your friends! Friends who are invited attend their first event for FREE!

Here’s what teens have said about past events:

Come and experience church in an entirely different way – designed, run, and led by your own peers. Teens at this event will meet other teens, be part of interesting discussion groups, engage in enjoyable worship, listen to talks created by other teens, play games, listen to music, and essentially have a great time. It is an excellent way to grow closer to God and others.

High school youth events have had a powerful impact on many teens in grades 9-12.

A 10th grader from Massachusetts said: “At TEC you get to meet new friends and keep in touch with old ones. You can be open and honest and have everyone support you and love you for who you truly are. You can become more in touch with God and discover creative new ways to pray. It is a really fun weekend that I don’t want to miss out on!!!”

A high school senior said: “It gives me a feeling that is hard to describe. I feel God all around me, in everything I do. It makes me realize God’s always with us, no matter what. I become closer to God in ways I never even imagined.”

If you are a high schooler willing to move closer to God or others, engage in honest discussions, enjoy great music and worship, and meet new friends, come to the next high school event. There are no requirements – you don’t have to be Episcopalian, you don’t need to believe in God – Just come with an open heart.
